Zach and Ksenia have been telling us about the “Waffle Window” for quite awhile now, so this week, we decided to go try it out. What a really cool place it was!! So, this is a picture of the Waffle Window. It literally is just a window that you walk up to and order your waffles. Another cafe lets Waffle Window customers sit in their eating area. The waffles were to die for! Oh my goodness! I would like to go back and try some of the other deliciousness they had to offer.
Zach and Anya were at the window when we got there and Ksenia directed us to a premo parking spot. It was a little drizzly that morning....but what else is new in Portland!
Lucas seemed to enjoy their plain waffles that are like eating a donut. Any visitors to Portland......we would love to take you to get in on the experience. It was very delicious!
Dad would like to introduce you to what he calls “the new member of the family”. Dad’s pointer finger on his left hand has been giving him problems for quite some time. It’s kept him from playing the guitar because it is quite painful. He has found that a classical guitar with nylon strings is much easier to play with his finger the way it is. For Father’s Day, I let him pick the classical guitar he wanted and it happened to come in yesterday at Portland Music. He’s pretty excited about it. It’s a Taylor! It’s WONDERFUL hearing him playing again!
Beau has shown a real interest in picking up the guitar again. He has decided to try practicing 15 minutes a day. He’s re-learning his chords right now. It’s pretty difficult for him with his left hand, but he’s pretty determined and we think it will be great exercise for his left hand and hopefully help strengthen it. He’s also been pretty focused on trying to rig up a string board that will help him learn his chords by feel.

Alright fam, sorry I have slacked. But we are still goin strong in Tornado Alley!
As of late we have had a few more unsettling days/nights of weather that have put me a little on edge. But no sirens so nothing too crazy. The storms at night make it look like a strobe light is on outside our window. The lightning is so different here than anything I have seen in Oregon or Utah, along with the thunder, its quite a show.
Jonah has learned how to get out of his bed (pack 'n play). Mae learned a while ago, but we told her not so she stopped. Jonah, on the other hand, will not do that. And when Mae sees him hop out, she does it too. We are in trouble. We weren't going to do toddler beds until we got back to Utah!!!! Not only has Jonah figured out his bed, just yesterday he figured out his high chair. Whether he is buckled or not he can get out. He is forcing us to let him be a big boy and I am not ready. I say this all the time but he really is ALL boy. (Except when he carries around mae's purses and wears her necklaces). He has started saying his own prayers and its the cutest thing ever. (Did I say that in my last post? I can't remember. Either way its still so fun to see him excited about saying his own prayers.)
Mae is just a sweetheart lately and seems to be cuter every day. (Jonah does too. Maybe I should focus on his cuteness when he is coloring all over the furniture or playing in the toilet. Then it wouldn't anger me so much. haha) Mae is really loving FHE and is always wanting to give the lesson and say the closing prayer. She loves playing outside so much, we are soaking up every ounce of time outside we can before we are back to utah for the winter again. Her favorite thing is swinging at the park or going on runs in the jogging stroller with me and counting how many dogs we see.
Should I keep telling you the same update for Drew? Because he's still doing the same thing. haha If you are tired of hearing it than you can bet Drew gets a little burnt out doing it. Hopefully we pampered and spoiled him enough on Fathers Day to help pump him up for the rest of the summer. He really is doing great and again we are amazed his allergies have not been an issue. He has also been nursing some hurt ribs after an intense b-ball game with the salesmen. We're not sure what's really going on with them but he's been in a good amount of pain. I told him if he still hurts this bad by the end of the week, we are getting them checked out.
I am doing the usual as well. Living up the sunny summer days with the kids. We have blueberry picking planned this week. Play dates are almost a daily occurrence. And I try to get running in as often as possible. I have come to find running really is my number one way to relieve stress. Drew and I have been hooked on the show The Voice. Anyone else liking it? Drew randomly got home by 7:30 last night and we were so excited that we could watch the Voice together. Its small things like that, that keep us going during the summer. :)
We only have about 6 weeks before we will be in Oregon. We are most definitely excited but its bittersweet having to leave without Drew. There is talk of him trying to come for part of the reunion. I will keep you posted. WE LOVE YOU ALL! Can't wait to see you and spend some good time together.

Updates:
-We have been doing some extensive work in our backyard. We dug out a garden last year, but never really dressed it up. In the last week we built some raised beds and filled them with some dirt delivered in a pile on our driveway. We are a little late for planting some of the early summer crops, but hope to get some carrots and other root veggies this year. We also hired some help to come clean out the massive overgrowth along the fences in our yards, and spread some bark-dust. Overall our backyards is turning into a rather pleasant place to spend time. I even fell motivated to go out and mow on a regular basis in order to keep it looking nice. not bad!
- Ksenia is teaching just one Bio 101 lab this summer. Since the PCC student population thins in the summer there aren't as many classes available for the part-time faculty to teach. The good news is she is home every night during the week, so we see a lot more of each other.(yay!)
- Lucas is still potty training, and still regularly pooping his pants. not sure why it is so difficult to convince anyone that pooping their pants is a bad idea, but this 2 year old is not convinced. We have set some pretty high (in comparison to current trends) standards for Lucas to attain in order to earn an extremely coveted toy (Mater, from Cars)... hopefully when we see you all in August he will be playing with that toy and we will have this whole mess in the potty... and not in his pants.
- Anya is getting so big. You out-of-towner's are missing some adorable progression. She is right on the verge of crawling... but the most exciting development is that she has learned to pick up food and put it in her own mouth!! Hello mealtime independence!! Goodbye cold dinners; the result of spending the whole mealtime catering to a hungry and fussy baby! Now if she'd just sprout some teeth we could give her more interesting things to consume.
That's about it. Ksenia and I have been enjoying what training we've been able to do for Hood To Coast, and hope all of you are enjoying your training too.
