This video speaks for itself...but this girl obviously has troubles with that.

I feel kind of bad re-posting this... I'm sure she has received enough grief. But for some reason I found the entire event so classically ironic... if you were Miss SC, you'd really need to learn to have a sense of humor about it.

Mitch Hedberg - On Letterman #2

I enjoyed this over lunch today and thought I'd pass along. Zach mentioned this guy to me over dinner a while back. He really is fantastic. T

Bummin at the Logan Square Fountain

As home as sweet home can be, sometimes a girl's just got to get out. I had been in all weekend with Jane and Will (who caught a virus playing at a friend's apartment so our packing/moving week would go smoother, thanks a lot). Don't mistake me; I love drawing Crayola marker faces on manilla paper, deciding that Daddy IS Lex Luthor but is still pretty much a good guy, and watching vintage Donald cartoons. But: but. So Sunday, late afternoon, I grabbed my keys and journal and headed alone to the huge fountain a couple of blocks away, a gathering place for bums, travelers, kids wanting to swim. I watched the people passing. Wrote.

For several minutes I watched a bum lounge on a nearby bench beside everything he appeared to own: a red shirt and an old water bottle filled halfway with coke. Young guy--maybe thirty. Dirty, bearded, shirtless, shoeless. Mirmaid tatoo down his arm. Too skinny for his own good, but muscular. Four little black boys approached him, tossing a football between them, and the bum got in on the action. One of the boys threw to this guy sitting on his bench and, with the one-handed deftness of an athlele, he catches it. He, unthinkingly and with the indifference born of a longstanding familiarity with the motion, snaps back a tight, clean spiral.

Who was this guy in a former life? Where did he come from, how did he get here, where was he going? Where in the world did he learn to throw like that? This is just a snapshot, a simple passing thought before I circled the fountain for home to make dinner and bathe the kids. I love people like this. My favorite people are the ones who surprise me.

The Devil is in The Details... and so is Jon Plett, on Vocals and Guitar

Ksenia and I had our first ever family planning meeting yesterday. It reminded me of when we were kids and it seemed like half of what we would do for FHE was just sit down and figure out how everyone was going to get to where they needed to go, and do everything they needed to do for the week. That was certainly a complicated ordeal, but I figured there would be many years and many babies before we'd have to sit down and correlate our schedules like that. Funny how life seems to complicate itself, without us really having to change much at all. I guess trying to leave the country for two weeks, the same two weeks that lead out of my internship (which is putting on some final pressure) and into school starting again, wasn't really meant to be an easy transition.

Of course with complication comes stress, and with stress comes worry, and i'm really not even sure what i'm worried about. I will say this, I sort of miss the "laize fare" (however you spell that) way of living. Do you remember, when you would just sort of let each day run its course and you'd just ride the current wherever it took you, as long as it wasn't into deep trouble? Or was it just me? Maybe I've led my life a little too passively, but I kind of liked that feeling. I don't get it much anymore, but I get some of it back when I listen to songs like this from The Details.

New Band for a New Week

I found this band when I was checking one of my new favorite blogs The Glorious Hum. They're called Two Hours Traffic. Apparently named after a line from a Shakespeare play. Pretty young guys, but they manage to have a fairly mature sound. The video is a little cheezy, but the song is good. It's called Jezebel.

This song was posted on the Glorious Hum, thought I'd share it too

Will at Bat, Jane Sat, Rocky's Phat

I know I know, the title is LAME! But here's an addendum to Mar's post. Enjoy!

Rittenhouse Square. August 17, 2007. Evening.

The streetlamps have just begun to turn on. A pigeon stirs, startling me, and I follow its flight over the trees to a balcony on a brick apartment building. Someone is growing a garden. Men with dreadlocks have begun playing bongos, a smiling couple shuffle home with their canes, and a man is talking to himself and forming words on the grass out of leaves. On the field next to where Jane and I sit on a park bench, Will’s plastic bat cracks as he hits the ball Travis has underhandedly thrown him. Will is learning to play baseball. The kid smacks five in a row, and a smiling crowd starts to assemble. Will laughs as he hits the ball into Travis’ stomach and Travis doubles over.

We walked to the art museum today. Travis loved the pop and modern art; I loved the Van Goghs and the Rodin statue and the 12th-century cloister fountain from Southwestern France; Will asked about all the Medieval crucifix paintings, loved the armor wing, and thought the knights were robots. He stood with his hands behind his back like a true aficionado, and, pretending to read the plaque, said, “This one is five pounds. Amazing.”

We covered Jane and Will in the stroller and walked home in a light summer rain, thunder rumbling distantly. Will asked me to tell him, for the thirtieth time, the story of Ben Franklin’s discovery of electricity. “I love electricity,” he said, at the end. He’d been fascinated by old Ben since we saw a gargantuan statue of him in the science museum. Says Ben’s a good thinker. The statue has been a favorite along with the planetarium, the Logan Square fountain that allows swimming and climbing on the huge water-spurting turtle and frog statues, the pigeons that in an almost alarming Hitchcock way flock to the bread we toss in the park, the construction workers eating lunch in a row ala Manhattan in the 1930s, the burrito joint down the street, the upscale neighborhood bakery, the butterfly exhibit, the Rodin museum, the French Second Empire styled City Hall with William Penn’s statue standing atop the dome and overlooking his city, the horsecarts, the street vendors, the cobblestoned streets, the cheesesteak sandwiches, the people reading on benches and blankets in the parks.

They are everywhere now. People, reading, walking to the French restaurant across the street, patting their dogs. At the corner of the square, a hotel has turned on white lights strung throughout its front trees and bushes, blinking from across the park like small reachable stars, as if a person, passing, could grab one for himself. Any person, no matter who. We are all reaching. If there is a fundamental commonality in all of the cities I’ve traveled to and lived in, it’s that we all want two things in our own ways: to find our version of happiness, and to matter. To us, happiness is Stanford, and California, and takeout over TV on Friday nights, and watching Jane learn how to cackle, and living with Superman, and finding new hip bands, and standing in front of a real Van Gogh. The Philadelphia chapter of our life is already at a close, and we are off to our next adventure. I can’t believe my luck in moving back to California, and yet—standing here under the light rain that has started up again—the city has begun to haunt me.

Some entertainment from Brian Reagan

While I was at the Y-daho everyone was always quoting this Brian Reagan comedian dude. And all of Drews selling buddies are doing the same thing. So we finally looked him up on YouTube and had some good laughs. Just wanted to spread the laughter. Enjoy!

A great man has left us...

I don't know how many of you have heard that President Faust has passed away early this morning. The first presidency has been the same the entire time I have known of the Church and I am sad to see Elder Faust leave us. I suppose the only constant thing really is change and he will be a blessing to many more still, I am sure. I really anjoyed reading the Deseret Morning News article that celebrates his life. What an incredibly inspiring and full life he led!

Go ahead... Wrap your lips around the tailpipe and take a deep breath!

I don't know about the rest of you, but this stuff gets me sort of excited about what the future may bring... as soon as we eliminate bureaucracy and all of the money lubbers out there trying to squeeze every last dime out of the worlds fossil fuel reserves.

Pizza!

Hailey has done it again everyone! She decided she was going to make her own homemade pizza from scratch this week. Everything from the pizza dough to the pizza sauce. She was as usual under estimating her cooking talent the whole time as she kept saying things like, "I dont know about this dough Drew....I dont think its going to rise at all...." But it turned out to be just like everything else she makes...AMAZING!!! We have some before and after shots of the pizza for your viewing pleasure. Just thought i would share this moment with everyone because it was the first pizza she has made from scratch! I think she might be regretting making her new found great pizza because when she now ask me what i want she gets the same answer everytime...pizza!
I love my wife's pizza...and my wife

Impossible is Unpossible!

I was meandering through the world wide web the other day and happened upon an unlikely pairing of videos. They pretty much speak for themselves. The first video is the "serious" version. The second is the "spoof". Pretty entertaining if I do say so myself... and this is myself saying so.

"Impossible is Nothing"
Starring...Aleksey Vayner... i dont' really know who he is.

"Impossible is the opposite of Possible"
Starring... Michael Cera (from arrested development)
